ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • After early July floods stirred manganese into Lake Georgetown, Round Rock began a new water treatment process on Aug 26 that uses sodium permanganate and extra chlorine to clear the water; customers may see clearer water with a slight change in smell within two to three days—officials stress that the water remains safe. The adjustments aim to convert dissolved manganese into a removable solid to fix the green tint caused by floodwaters.  City of Round Rock

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Round Rock Planning and Zoning Commission will consider downtown code amendments and rezoning proposals at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3 in the Council Chambers as part of an effort to boost mixed-use development and strengthen pedestrian and green design—residents can review draft materials and provide comments.  City of Round Rock
  • Mayor Craig Morgan said SB 10 will lower the cap on yearly property tax revenue—this may force Round Rock to cut funding for key services like police and fire. He explained that the state bill treats all taxes the same and lacks true relief for local budgets.  City of Round Rock
  • The Round Rock City Council approved a $789.7 million FY26 budget on the first hearing on August 28 that sets a new tax rate of $0.372 per $100 valuation to fund public safety staffing, roadway and utility upgrades, parks, and arts projects—actions aimed at supporting the city’s growth.
