GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Round Rock has shared draft documents for its most comprehensive downtown zoning update in over a decade—designed to support growth while preserving historic charm. Community members can review the draft and share feedback during scheduled office hours from July 22 to 31, with a public hearing set for later this summer.  City of Round Rock
  • Travis County residents affected by the July storms and flooding can apply in person for FEMA assistance at Round Rock Baptist Church in Leander from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. from July 16 through July 23, with representatives not available on Sunday, July 20.  CBS Austin
  • Gov. Abbott announced on Wednesday that 26 counties hit by recent floods are eligible for SNAP hot foods — allowing SNAP recipients to use their Lone Star Cards for hot meals like rotisserie chicken until Aug. 14. Federal approval covers the added counties to help families amid ongoing recovery efforts.  CBS Austin
  • Round Rock UniverCity, an 11 week program that shows how the City works, will begin Aug. 18. The program meets each Monday from 5:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. at various city locations — dinner is provided and participants will earn a certificate along with a mayor photo at a council meeting.  City of Round Rock
  • On July 10, Round Rock City Council approved its 2025—2026 Community Development Block Grant Action Plan to spend $672,184 from HUD on essential home repairs, sidewalk improvements, and funding local nonprofits such as the Round Rock Area Serving Center, CASA, and Meals on Wheels. The plan designates $436,921 to help low to moderate income homeowners through the Home Repair and Neighborhood Services Program and will be supplemented by $250,000 from the city’s general fund to support critical services for vulnerable residents.  City of Round Rock
