ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Liberty Hill nonprofit Hope House lost its staff member Sherry Richardson—swept away in early morning floods during the July 4th weekend—as rescue crews evacuated 16 children from the affected home; hundreds of volunteers are now helping clean up the water and mud damage. The nonprofit is working to restore its facilities and support the children during its recovery.  FOX 7 Austin

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Round Rock firefighters responded to flooding incidents from July 4 to July 9 by rescuing an individual from a flooded roadway, evacuating a family from their home, and launching a rescue boat at Veterans Park while assisting Liberty Hill and Leander in search and rescue operations — seven personnel remain deployed to Kerrville through mutual aid systems. The department continues to support regional partners amid ongoing recovery efforts.  City of Round Rock
  • Governor Abbott announced that the Texas Workforce Commission is accepting applications for Disaster Unemployment Assistance for workers and self-employed people in Central Texas counties (Burnet, San Saba, Tom Green, Travis, and Williamson) who lost work due to recent flooding, and affected individuals may apply online or by phone with required documentation submitted within 21 days of applying ahead of the September 4 deadline.  FOX 7 Austin
