- ➤ The Penfold Theatre in Round Rock will host Friends' Mystery Night featuring the interactive murder mystery Into Temptation on August 29 at 7:30 p.m., August 30 at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m., and August 31 at 2:30 p.m. The show will mark its 30th anniversary after a six-year break and tickets will cost between $19 and $39 per person—doors open one hour before curtain. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Flooding over the July 4 weekend killed nearly 120 people and left more than 170 missing across Central Texas—Kerr County reported 96 deaths including 36 children while emergency teams continue searching for survivors. FOX 7 Austin
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Abbott directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to request nine additional counties be added to the Presidential Disaster Declaration for catastrophic flooding that began last week. Five counties qualified for FEMA Individual Assistance programs — four counties qualified for the Public Assistance Program. CBS Austin
- ➤ Following recent flooding that killed more than 100 people and left many missing in Central Texas, state and county offices are offering help such as tax filing extensions, temporary property tax exemptions, and driver license assistance—courts have also modified schedules and urged cooperation to adjust deadlines until August 6 for those affected. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Williamson County and Cities Health District confirmed the first West Nile virus case in 2025 in a southern county resident in their 40s who was diagnosed with West Nile neuroinvasive disease on July 3. Health officials report that no mosquito traps have tested positive so far and urge residents to protect themselves—using insect repellent and eliminating standing water. CBS Austin
