- ➤ Round Rock is preparing for a Juneteenth celebration that starts today with a barbecue at a new location and will include a remembrance video at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow. The event comes nearly one year after a mass shooting that injured several people and killed two mothers—police have arrested seven and say they will keep investigating. FOX 7 Austin
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Round Rock ISD students participated in the National French Contest in April and earned 245 honors from four campuses, with Westwood High School securing 110 awards. Cedar Valley Middle, McNeil High and Pearson Ranch Middle received a mix of platinum, gold, silver and bronze medals—showing the district's strong commitment to language learning. - ➤ The Round Rock City Council approved a measure expanding the city's license plate reader network—allocating $181,000 for 40 new cameras and adding 10 units with remote viewing—and the police noted that the 30 active cameras have supported investigations while storing data for 30 days. - ➤ City of Round Rock released its annual Consumer Confidence Report which shows that the drinking water met or exceeded federal and state standards. The city is temporarily switching disinfectant from chloramine to free chlorine through the end of June — new year-round water use standards now apply to all water customers. City of Round Rock
- ➤ Round Rock’s Communications and Marketing Department won nine statewide awards at the TAMIO conference in Fort Worth from June 4-6 – five were first-place honors, including two by the Police Department’s Public Information Office.
